“Pegasus is a mythical winged divine horse, and one of the most recognized creatures in Greek mythology. Usually depicted as pure white, Pegasus is the offspring of the Olympian god Poseidon. He was foaled by the Gorgon Medusa upon her death, when the hero Perseus decapitated her.” Wikipedia

Last week one of the challenges for the PS 9-day challenge led by Sam Peterson, was to create an imaginary creature by blending two or more animal images. I started out trying to make a griffon which is a combination of a lion back and an eagle front. Sadly, after three tries, I gave up on trying to find a lion and an eagle that would fit well together. So, I thought first of a unicorn, but I've done that before, so I settled on a flying horse, also known as Pegasus.

This Pegasus is a little more earthly than the one Wikipedia describes. I started out with a photo that I took along I-75 on the way back from Florida. I  really liked the sky and figured that it would be a fitting image to set off mythological creature. The horse and the owl wings are both from AdobeStock. The dappling was provided by a leopard pattern from the Wild Things collection on the now-defunct Epson Creative Zone. (I got a lot of wonderful patterns,  textures and templates from this site. I wish I had known ahead of time that they were going to get rid of it; I would have downloaded a lot more.)

Of course, creating this image was a lot more than just plopping images into the scene. There was a lot of careful selecting and masking, along with making sure the lights in the shadows matched thoughout the scene. And, there was always that little bit of Photoshop magic from a long time PS user. :-)

    Take care and stay well.
